David was happy that Quinn had made it home safely, but nothing in that message made David less worried about what the coming days had in store for the two of them.

“Fucking A, what a night!” Inigo shouted, banging his fists on the counter when he saw Quinn walk in the door. “I have a bruise on my thigh the size of my foot. Did you see that crowd? We all voted afterward that we’re officially signing up for the league that starts up in a few months. You should see all the paperwork, though. I should hire a secretary.”
Quinn yawned and tried to smile enough to convince Inigo that he was happy for him. He was, but he was just too tired and confused from last night to handle the stream of words flowing out of Inigo’s mouth. He’d picked Brian up from his sister’s at seven, taken him to the park to take advantage of a few hours of unseasonable warmth, and then dropped him off with his parents before coming into work.
“Sounds great.”
He still couldn’t believe what had happened with David the night before. Things were definitely getting out of control between the two of them. He liked the guy, sure, but everything was just…too much.
I sucked a dick. What kind of straight guy does that?
He pushed that thought away by telling Inigo, “Print out the forms and I’ll help you fill them out.”
“Thanks, man. You sure you’re okay? You seemed much happier last night. Did David do something?”
Inigo balled his hands into fists. Quinn had no doubt that his boss would fight for him if he said David had hurt him. He’d been stunned to hear some of the stories of Inigo’s anger management issues from when he was younger and the trouble with the law they sometimes caused. Inigo hadn’t done anything since Quinn started working there, but a little bit of it was flashing through his eyes that morning.
“No. Everything’s fine. Nothing to worry about, but I’m too tired and feeling too blah to talk about it today. Maybe I just need some coffee.”
“Whatever,” Inigo said, leaning back in his chair and glancing at the clock behind him. “All I know is you two looked hot to trot last night. I was getting worked up just watching you guys making out. Made me wish I had a guy of my own. But if you can’t figure out how to be happy with that, maybe it just isn’t meant to be.”
He knew his boss wasn’t challenging whether he was gay or not, but it didn’t stop him from hearing the accusation.
“No, that’s not it. There’s nothing wrong. We’re great.” At least until our fake relationship is over and we break up. Deciding to start laying the groundwork for that approaching deadline, he said, “It just feels like a fun, hot fling, though. You know? Like it’s been great these last few weeks, but what will we do after the holidays are over?”
What will I do after they are over?
He didn’t want to be alone.
